Kinetik is an American metal band hailing from San Jose, California. They cite Meshuggah, Between The Buried And Me, Sikth and Mnemic is their main sources of inspiration. Let’s see what their first demo, entitled Stoppage Time, has to offer.

The aformentioned Meshuggah, Sikth and Between The Buried And me are some of my personal favorites. I have to admit that Kinetik manage to hold their own quite well. They certainly have the skills required to get things to the next level.

The first songs on Stoppage Time is the underproduced Vacuous. It’s a pretty technical song with lots of Meshuggah-styled polyrhythmic grooves. Collapsar and Define Human have a very decent production and it’s on those songs the first glimpses of an original sound shine through. Sikth and BTBAM are the main sources of inspiration here. Gravitational Lull is a somewhat more technical effort, much in line with Meshuggah and Sikth.

Stoppage Time is quite an entertaining release from a very promising band. The first signs of their own style are clearly there. With the right kind of promoting and funding I’m sure these guys should go far. Nice!
