I have a penchant for twisted, original and experimental music in the vein of Frank Zappa, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mr Bungle and Fantomas. My latest ear-candy is a band called Iwrestledabearonce who will release their new album later this month. It’s called Ruining It For Everyone and it’s going to be released later this month.

Iwrestledabearonce shares the profound love with the aforementioned artists and bands for combining diverse musical styles into something really twisted, yet very exciting. On Ruining It For Everyone these guys (and one girl) mix jazz, grindcore, progressive rock and electronics with the greatest of ease. The best thing is they managed to cast it into cohesive and frankly quite catchy songs. “Next Visible Decline”, “Deodorant Can’t Fix Ugly” and “Karate Nipples” are bright examples of their considerable abilities.

The vocal gymnastics by Krysta Cameron are another sight to behold. She turns from a sweet angel to a raging Tasmanian Devil in a blink of an eye. Furthermore the imaginative and unorthodox use of electronics gives Ruining It For Everyone a very original twist. I like this!

Production-wise there’s nothing to complain about this album. The guitars are heavy and in-your-face, while the electronics and vocals are mixed in such a fashion that all these seperate elements really complement each-other.

Ruining It For Everyone is organised chaos to the highest degree, yet incredibly focused and controlled. If you’re into experimental and avant-garde styles of metal it simply doesn’t get much better than Iwrestledabearonce.
